Basic Climbing Class

Adventure Explorers' Basic Climbing Class (BCC) program is a technical mountaineering program aimed to introduce students to both rock and glacier travel skills. By taking this course you will gain the skills, knowledge, and experience to establish a sound footing to move safely and efficiently through the mountains. Additionally you’ll begin building relationships with what we hope are lifelong climbing partners and these will be the first of many life long adventures together. We look forward to helping you successfully complete this course and sharing our love of the mountains with you!

Objective of this course is to introduce beginner or novice climber with the knowledge and skills required to safely climb rock, snow and glaciated mountains. Some of the skills covered in the course include:

  • Knowledge of climbing equipment, clothing , knots, commands/communication, belay techniques, rappel techniques.
  • Navigational skill using maps , compass and GPS.
  • Decision making in avalanche terrain, understanding weather and snow conditions
  • Rope travel, anchoring, snow camping techniques, crevasse rescue and first aid techniques

Application Instruction

  • Applications are closed for this year 2017.
   

AEX provides all ropes and anchoring gear. Students bring helmet, harness, and climbing shoes.

Rental equipment may be available. AEX is a registered 501 c3 non-profit organization . We welcome your donations This is a tax deductible, charitable donation. These funds not only help to offset instructor training and equipment expenses, they are also utilized to help provide AEX's First Aid/CPR and Wilderness First Aid programs, trail maintenance in public lands.
